I attended West Virginia University for two years and every year for one week in October a group of church goers would set up shop from 7am-7pm outside of the student union. They were an anti-abortion group, who were determined to get their message across. They took the most disgusting pictures of aborted bloody fetuses and blew them up on giant poster board and held them up outside everyday for a week. The pictures were of full grown baby fetuses, which usually is not the case in abortion. Most people who choose abortion abort within the first few weeks. These pictures were so extreemly grusum that I could not even look at them. Not to mention that this was in public where their were small children passing by.

The protestors would yell things to us students as we walked by like "If you were not a whore this wouldnt be an issue!" Now, not only do I not understand why this was even allowed, but it was rude and extreemly offensive. I believe that abortion is a womens right to choose and I do not doubt that many of the girls walking by were highly offended. They had no right saying the things they did to people they knew nothing about. This was taking it too far. Many people have abortions for health or their own personal reasons.

I think that it should be illegal to print graphic abortion images for protests. We all know that its is gross and ugly and we get the point that people think its wrong. I do not see any harm in protesting I just do not think that its necessary to be so graphic.

I thought long and hard about who I wanted to interview. I wanted to interview someone interesting who had much to say and had influenced my life greatlly. Interviewing my mother has not only brought us closer, yet made me realize how to be a better person. I never realized how much my mom loves her children. Her and I are best friends, but I never realized that she really would do anything in the world for us. To be a mother you can not be selfish, you must meet your childs needs first and then your own. My mom believes that no one just knows how to be a good mother, but you learn with experiance.

For instance, my mom went to college, graduated, got a job and gave it all up for her kids. Now, I do not think personally that I could spend that much time and money just to quit a career and be a stay at home mom. My mother says that you do whats best for you and your family. I guess I will learn.

I tried to rewind and ask more questions about my childhood when my brother and I were more dependent on our mother for more everday activities. A typical day was to get us up, dressed, fed, pack lunches, play, school, homework, dinner, sports, family time, and lots more. I wondered where she fit time in for her needs. She said "sometimes you found time, sometimes you didnt". I could not imagine not being able to find time to do my hair or read a book because of some little hellian was running around the house. My mom says that you try to teach your children to be good people and do good in the world, you set them up for success and watch them grow. In hopes that they will create a good future for themselves.

I respect my mom for all od her live and nurturing. I only hope that I can be half the mom that she is today.

Observation Project

Sooo...today when we got to class we were told to go somewhere in a 10 mile radius, observe a scene and write about it. I went to baker park this is what I finagled...

I am sitting in Baker Park on the bleachers of a baseball field. I see a bell tower, and behind it a row of houses. To my left there are many people in wedding dresses setting up for Brazil Day...I dont get it. To my right are four women parking their bikes and stretching to play tennis. On the bike path behind me are walkers, joggers, moms pushing their children in strollers, and passing vehicles. It is very cloudy and overcast. You can tell that fall is here, which I do not mind. I love the smell of fall. I love wearing fall clothes and walking around downtown in the fall. The grass is kind of wet and sticking to my feet...eww gross. I feel emo and weird sitting here all alone at 9:50 AM, however it is peaceful. I wish that we could do this everyday in English(my worst subject) I LOVE LOVE LOVE reading and writing, but i HATE writing essays. So back to the park scene...
The sun is about to come out, which is brilliant because I am cold. People watching is amusing. I love to give them names and make up stories about them. I dont doubt that sometimes I would be accurate. I came to the park because our teacher told us to stay in a 10 mile radius and I had already been to starbucks this morning. The pumpkin spice latte is back! I got into it with the "bartista" because he gave me a grande instead of a venti...HOW DARE HIM!?! So with starbucks rulled out my next option would have been a bar, but once again its 9:50 AM. Not that that hasnt stopped anyone before, but this is a school project. These women are still stretching and have not started playing tennis yet. I know its windy but geez I wonna see some backhand. I LOVE tennis. Now, these women are drying off the PUBLIC tennis courts with beach towels. Not only are the courts hardly wet but they are gambling away precious tennis playing time. Also, it would take years to dry off 5 tennis courts with 2 beach towels. I hate uptight people, just play in the baby puddle!
I just took a break from writing and ran the bases of this baseball field. I am heading back to class. I'll see ya when I see ya!
